Emergency Medicine

The 16-bed Emergency Department at Montgomery Regional Hospital has two obstetric and gynecology exam rooms, and ENT exam room, two cardiac care rooms, two trauma rooms, and a three-bed observation area, two suture rooms, a special pediatric exam room, and a cast and splint room. This Emergency Department is a Level III Trauma Center with all of the RNs certified in Advanced Life Saving Courses (ACLS, TNCC, PALS, CEN). The Emergency Department works closely with the regional Emergency Medical Services by providing educational in-service opportunities on a monthly basis.

Orthopedic Services

The medical professionals at the Southwest Virginia Center for Orthopedics enlist a comprehensive, leading edge approach to the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries.  Our highly trained team of surgeons, nurses, physician assistants, rehabilitation specialists and various medical support personnel works with each patient and their primary care physician to develop a treatment plan specifically for that patient.  By combining extensive clinical expertise with a compassionate, caring treatment philosophy, we have created a program known for its quality of care.

Cardiology/Cardiac Services

With three cardiologists and a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, which provided the first state-of-the-art digital system in the state of Virginia, Montgomery Regional Hospital offers greatly expanded cardiology services, including sophisticated diagnostic procedure such as transesophageal echocardiography and cardiac rehabilitation programs.

Birthing Center

The Birthing Center provides eight state-of-the-art LDRP (labor-delivery-recovery-postpartum) suites with the comforts of home.  We encourage rooming in for father and baby.  In every birthing suite, there is a family dining area, and Room Service menu meal delivery is available for the mother.  A Level II nursery is available for normal and high-risk infant care.  Central fetal monitoring and secure infant abduction prevention systems are in place.  Internationally board certified lactation consultants staff our Lactation Center and visit all new moms and are available post-delivery for follow up consultations.

Diabetes Education

Diabetes Education at Montgomery Regional Hospital has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association for meeting the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education.  Our certified diabetes educator and dieticians will help you learn to successfully manage your diabetes.  Four classes of one to two hours each will include content areas such as: healthy eating, staying active, monitoring, taking medicine, problem solving, reducing risks and healthy coping.

Heartburn Treatment Center

The Montgomery Regional Heartburn Treatment Center offers residents of Southwest Virginia and referring physicians a center in Blacksburg that specializes in the diagnosis and multi-disciplinary therapy of GERD.  The Center works in cooperation with area physicians to ensure that GERD patients are offered all appropriate treatment choices and that these treatments are delivered with optimal results.
